MY MISSION

As soccer continues to take up a larger space within American sports media, we need dynamic, young voices to lead the way who are committed to soccer as a primary focus instead of a side interest. I seek to be a part of that shift, while pushing the future of soccer media to truly represent its diverse and widely untapped fan base in America.

MY STORY

BRINGING A NEW VOICE TO THE TABLE

What does it mean to bring a new voice to the table? It means creativity. It means challenging the status quo. It means speaking from new perspectives. It means amplifying voices that don’t have a seat at the table. The most powerful voice is not the loudest one in the room, but the one understood by many. These are some of my tenets as a broadcaster and content creator. Sports have always been central to my life. As the child of a single mother who worked long hours to provide for me, sports offered a much-needed outlet. From sports video games to listening to ESPN radio (we didn’t have TV at home) to running pickup at the basketball court by my house, I was doing something sports-related every hour of the day. I bring passion to the work I do because I know that sports are more than a hobby. Sports are woven into the fabric of society on so many levels, and the way we talk about them should reflect that. I got into Northwestern University through the QuestBridge National College Match scholarship: a full, four-year scholarship that matches high-achieving, low-income students with elite universities. At Northwestern, I tried broadcasting for the first time and fell in love with it. Most of my four years on campus revolved around our student radio station, WNUR. My peers chose me as Sports Director during my junior and senior years after I served as an online editor and director of podcasts previously. In summer 2018, I interned at Fox Sports during the FIFA World Cup, and it reignited my love for soccer. Growing up in North Carolina, all people talked about was basketball, football and baseball. Friends, family and even professors at Northwestern told me there was no appetite for soccer and that I should focus on the “Big 4” sports. Seeing first-hand how the World Cup was produced in 2018 helped me shed those lifelong fallacies. I left Los Angeles knowing there is a place for me in the soccer media world, I just have to earn it. Like many, the COVID-19 pandemic hit me hard. In March 2020, I was entering the final semester of my senior year at Northwestern, with a trip to broadcast the Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament less than a week away. Of course, WNUR shut down along with the rest of the world, and broadcasting opportunities vanished. I finished my final two months of school online in quarantine, and faced an uncertain new world after graduation.   While the pandemic knocked me off my path, I chose to see it as an opportunity. I started my YouTube channel and poured my heart and soul into it for the next 13 months, only halted by hip surgery in 2021. Although I couldn’t broadcast live games, my YouTube channel helped me sharpen my delivery while I taught myself how to edit video, make thumbnails, and produce engaging content. In 2021, I also started working for Helium Agency, a digital sports marketing agency in Durham, NC, where I oversaw all social media management and digital promotion for our top client, D1Baseball.com.   I finally got back in the broadcast booth in October 2021, and I haven’t looked back since. Recently, I began a new role as a full-time digital video producer with Marca.com's expansive new English-language edition, while continuing to do freelance play-by-play across North Carolina for all levels of soccer. When I'm not behind the computer or the mic, you can probably find me on a soccer field somewhere. My goal is to become a full-time soccer play-by-play broadcaster, but I know that my vast set of skills and experiences can be an asset in other roles along the way.  If you want to bring a new voice to the table, let's talk.
